Francesco Manca

Self-taught artist Valerio Pisano has art in his blood: an expressive urgency which  is demonstrated in various ways and at any time and has led him to experiment in different expressive elements and pictorial techniques. His website is now online www.valeriopisano.it, captivating graphics and easy to surf through. It displays hints of his biography and images of his work, from those produced with ballpoint pens showing good taste and an enviable technical perfection  to the more important works using oil paint, where the compact colours spread dominantly over the canvas . There is a section dedicated to his more imaginative works, some on the borderline of the absurd, like the “double corkscrew” or the “scissors for split ends”. There’s also a particular chessboard certainly not lacking in expressive vigour.

The use of the ballpoint pen has always dominated his work despite some intervals using acrylic and oil paint, decoupage and other techniques. His works are proof, though rather contrary to popular belief, that  a ballpoint pen can be used as an adaptable instrument of art: during the years he has acquired the  capability of softening the strokes of his pen so well they are nearly hardly noticeable.  In all of his works you can recognize his taste in irony, the paradox and the absurd.
